Obituary for Lucy DiPaola
Lucy DiPaola, Ph.D, age 57, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.Dr. DiPaola resided in Slate Hill with her life partner, Linda Werner. She was born in New York City to parents Francesca SanGiorgi and Filadelphio DiPaola.She leaves two brothers, Mario SanGeorgi, and wife, Joan and Salvatore SanGeorge, and wife, Carol. She leaves two nieces and three nephews, three great nieces and two great nephews.Among the many accomplishments of her lifetime, Lucy received her Ph.D from Fordham University in 1990. She held positions of chairperson and professor of Education at Mt. Saint Mary College since 1986. She was co-founder of Teach-nology, an educational web portal and coauthored a book and other articles related to technology and education and designed a web site for the NY Colleges for Teacher Education. She served as Chairperson and Board Member and Vice President of Staff Development at Med-Excel. She also served on Executive Board of New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Board and Trustee Member of Cheshire Academy and served as President of Delta Kappa Gamma. She received numerous awards, including the R. Neal Applebee Award for Outstanding Teacher Educator and Mt. St. Mary College Teacher of the Year and Faculty Award.Of all her accomplishments, her pride rested with being a teacher. She held positions of teacher and Principal, Professor and Administrator. These are highlights, but many other awards and accomplishments filled her life. Lucy will be remembered as a woman of deep spirituality, a loving and selfless spirit, a generous heart and a friend to so many.Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Centerville. Cremation will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lucy's name may be made to: Dr. Lucy Di Paola Fund, C/O Mt. Saint Mary College, 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
