April 9, 1941 - March 22, 2014

Middletown, NY

Lucy Anne Ferrara, an area resident since 1973, died on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 72. The fourth and youngest child of the late Felix and Madeline Capoziello DeFiore, she was born on April 9, 1941 in Brooklyn.

Lucy worked as an Adminstrative Assistant for Aetna Insurance in Fairfield, NJ until her retirement. Lucy was a strong willed woman, a creature of habit who was detail oriented. Family was her number one concern and focus. She always remained stoic throughout her illness, she never complained and did not want to focus on her illness. Her strength and spirit will always be remembered by her family.

She is survived by her three loving daughters, Laura Knappe and her husband, Mark of Chesterfield, VA, Felicia VanDoran of Goshen, NY and Danielle Melamed of Middletown; one brother, Matthew DeFiore of Orlando, FL; one sister, Catherine Purcell of Greenwood Lake, NY; seven beloved grandchildren, Eric, Anthony, Christopher, Stephen, Joseph, Paul, and Aaron; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul DeFiore and son-in-law, Edward Van Doran.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s name may be made to the American Lung Association.
