**The services will be recorded and uploaded at a later date, we apologize for the techinical difficulties today.
Lovie Lee Blount, 92, slept away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in the comfort of her home. Lovie entered this world February 4, 1929 in Slocum, North Carolina. Lovie was the fourth of twelve children to the late Daisy and Francis Blount. Although she was born in Slocum she was raised in Engelhard, North Carolina where she spent her early childhood life. Lovie attended school at the Slocum Elementary School, and then moved on to high school at Hyde County Training School in Scranton, North Carolina. In her late teens, Lovie moved to Harlem, New York where she moved in with her older sister Stella Mae. In New York is where she met her partner William McKinley and out of that union 1 child, Gloria Francis Blount, was born. Lovie was an amazing cook and worked in corporate dining for Pfizer for over 20 years and then ARP Food Services at Goldman Saks for over 35 yrs.
When her daughter, Gloria, suddenly passed away in 1985 she moved in with her Son-in-law, Ralph Womack, to help raise her only grandchild, Nicole Blount. She loved the Lord and attended Mt. Hope Baptist Church faithfully every Sunday. She was head of the kitchen committee there and loved to feed any and everyone. After Mt. Hope Baptist church closed down, she couldn’t really get to church like she wanted. However, her granddaughter asked her Pastor at the time, Rev. Melvin Wilson for a new bible for her. She loved that bible and read it every day until she got too sick to read but asked Nicole to read her passages even in sickness. She would always say feed someone if they’re hungry and help someone if they need it because God will always take care of you! She loved her family and looked forward to their calls and/or visits. While she only had 1 biological grandchild everyone called her grandma. Every Sunday people would come for Sunday dinner (Soulfood Sunday was a true thing) and we would even give plates to people in the building where she lived. She loved to look out the window and see what was going on in the block and everyone loved her. In 2014 she moved to Middletown, NY to live with her grand daughter to help her watch Andrew, her great-grandson. Lovie had a special relationship with both of her great-grandchildren that was unmatched. The bond was unbreakable. Lovie also claimed 2 others as grandkids, Davon Robinson and Cheyenne Nicoleau, she watched both of them from babies and loved and cared for them as her own.
Lovie was a Loving and Caring Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend with a Heart of Gold, and she loved us all. She leaves to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy her Grand daughter: Nicole Blount of Middletown, NY; 2 Great Grandchildren: Gloria Chanel Blount of Wurtsboro, NY and Andrew Sanders of Middletown, NY; Her Brothers & Sisters: Daisy Jr. Blount (Betty) of Suffolk, VA; Willie Mae Harris (Benny) of Engelhard, NC; Thurman Blount (Jannie Mae) of Greenville, NC; Darnella Benston of Baltimore, MD; Ronald Lee Blount (Delores) of Newburgh, NY. Other Survivors: A Host of Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces & Nephews, Cousins, Extended Family, Loved Ones, and Friends.
