Louis F. Sergio, a retired letter carrier for the NYC Post Office, died following a long illness at Middletown Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was 92.

The son of the late Francis and Mary Arbia Sergio, he was born on July 27, 1922 in New York City. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Master Sargeant during World War II. Following his military service, Louis married Elisa (Elsie) T. Soriano on February 2, 1946 in New York City and they shared 68 years of marriage together. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, Louis and Elsie moved to the Westtown area from South Ozone Park, NY. He was a member of Our Lady of the Scapular Church in Unionville.

He was a wonderful husband and father who very generous to his family, especially his grandchildren. He was extremely handy and loved using his talents creating models and woodworking that brought joy to children, friends and his church community. He liked spending time with his family, fishing with his brother and playing with his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, Elisa at home, he is survived by his loving daughter, Mary Sergio of Westtown; brother Alfred Sergio and his wife May and sister-in-law Helen Sergio all of Long Island and three grandchildren, Carla Ann, Christina Ann and David and three great-grandchildren.

Louis was predeceased by his brother Nick and one sister Rosie.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Our Lady of the Scapular Church in Unionville, NY. Burial will be in the family plot in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
