Louis D. Scarano, Jr., a lifelong resident of the area died Friday, June 16, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Lou is survived by Rae Catherine, his spouse of 53 years, and his sons, John and Michael; daughter-in-law, Ursula and five grandchildren: Zachary, Sophia, Erin, Samantha and Noah. His nephews, Ronald and Louis Lo Franco both live in Florida with their wonderful families. Lou was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Lo Franco and his brother-in-law, Jack Lo Franco.
The son of the late Theresa Fotino and Louis Scarano, he was born on August 3, 1935, in Middletown, NY. After graduating from Middletown High School, Lou served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He received his bachelor's degree and his master's degree from Ithaca College. Lou taught physical education, coached football and basketball and was the Athletic Director in the Goshen New York Central School District. He became a real estate broker upon resigning from his teaching position.
Lou received his baptism and confirmation at St. Joseph's Church and attended St. Joseph's elementary school. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1097 in Middletown, where he enjoyed many happy times.
Lou married Rae Catherine Crabtree on August 10, 1963, at St. Michael's Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He adored his two sons and affectionately referred to them as his "bookends". Lou was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed vacations with his family and friends.
There will be a viewing for friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, June 23, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. There will be a service of remembrance ceremony for friends and family from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24 at Applebee-McPhillips, followed by Lou's burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Cottage St., Middletown.
A Service of Military honors will take place at 11 am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown, NY, friends and family are invited to attend.
