Lionel Ellington Minott Grant, age 80, died on January 27, 2022 after a long illness in Park Manor Rehabilitation Center in Middletown, New York.

Lionel, also known as “Lion”, was born on September 13, 1941 in Colon, Republic of Panama to parents Ashton Minott and Claris Grant Minott. After graduating from high school, he immigrated to the United States in 1970. He settled in Middletown, NY, where he began his career with the New York Office of Children and Family Services as a Security Youth Counselor at the Annex in Goshen, New York. He served for 28 years and retired in 2003.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cynthia Bishop Minott, his four children; Lionel (Tonya) Minott, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida, Stephanie (Joshua) Washington of Middletown, New York, Itzela (Chuck) Connor of Baltimore, Maryland and Ricardo (Yolanda) Minott of Rock Hill, South Carolina. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Cecelia Minott of Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by nine grandchildren; Stephon, Dioniscio, Gino. Tasheena, Tamar, Joshua, Leilani, Trenton and Nicholas; two great-grandchildren; Samaya and Zaiya and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by sisters Verona, Almanola and brother, Albert.

Lionel worked tirelessly to support his family and close friends throughout his life. He assisted countless family members to immigrate from Panama to the United States so they could have better access to a quality of life for their children and grandchildren. He was also a man of God and worshipped at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Middletown, New York since 1995, where he served God and ministered to his Church family and the surrounding area. He was a great father to all his children and was a source of leadership and wisdom for his entire family. He was a social, active man who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed baseball, swimming, dancing, and traveling. His family and friends will always remember him as a great man with a big heart and a funny sense of humor. He was always willing to help others that were less fortunate than he was.
