Linda Suzanne Wiley-Small, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to many, died following a fearless and valiant battle with cancer on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Kaplan Family Residence in Newburgh. She was 53. 

The daughter of John E. and Mary Alice O’Neil Wiley, she was born on September 26, 1959 in Ft. Benning, GA. Linda was the oldest of seven children and grew up in Greenville. She worked as an Office Manager and paralegal for Rosenthal-Markowitz, LLP and served as the Executive Director of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association. She was an advocate for victims of domestic violence and was honored for her work within the Westchester community. 

Her family and friends will remember her for her indomitable strength. She was never afraid to speak up if she felt anything was wrong or unfair. She had a great sense of humor and truly loved and enjoyed life. She was supportive and generous in all facets of her life and always had time to help others. She fought hard for everything and everyone she believed in and was truly an inspiration to all. 

She is survived by her loving husband Tom Small and her daughter Tara Surace at home; her parents, John and Mary Alice Wiley; stepchildren, Thomas Small, Jr of Newburgh, Danielle Sorvillo and her husband Sal of Fishkill and Jennifer Small of S.C.; her six siblings, Laura Nagengast and her husband Joseph of Bloomingburg, Karen Wiley and her husband Mike Acoveno of Greenville, Todd Wiley of Newburgh, Katie Wiley and her husband Dave Feldman of Bethlehem. PA, Paul Wiley and his wife Kathleen of Westtown, and Mark Wiley and his wife Margie of Hampton, VA ; her beloved English bulldog, Gracie; and oodles of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and countless friends.

Cremation will be private. 

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Linda’s Life will follow at 5:30 pm at the funeral home Wednesday evening. 

Linda’s family would like to thank Dr. Dinsmore, Dr. Katz and his staff at the Roger Williams Medical Center in R.I, the Oncology Unit at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown and the Kaplan Family Residence in Newburgh for the excellent care they provided her and the family during her illness. 

Memorial contributions in Linda’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Linda’s Life will follow at 5:30 pm at the funeral home Wednesday evening.
