Lewis Edward Cash, Sr. of New York City and Washingtonville, succumbed to a long illness on August 17, 2013 at United Hospice of Rockland in Haverstraw, NY. He was 88.
Lewis Edward Cash, Sr. was born on June 22, 1925 in Paducah, Kentucky to Thomas Bernard Cash, Sr. and Claudia Estelle Blakey Cash. Lewis proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II from August 1943 to April 1946. He later met the love of his life, Leona Dorcus , and they married on July 19, 1948. He worked for many years as a specialized carrier for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City until his retirement in 1994.
Lewis had a big heart and loved his family dearly. He fought tirelessly to make sure he was always there when anyone needed. His kindness, humor, sacrifices and love for his family and friends will forever be remembered.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Leona Cash; devoted son, Lewis Cash, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Mercedes Cash (Washingtonville, NY); loving grandchildren, Tanisha and Lewis Cash, III; brother, Richard Cash; brothers-in-law, Charles and Nathaniel Dorcus; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 10:30am to 12:30 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 pm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY. Burial with Military honors will be held immediately after the church service at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
Lewis didn’t favor any one particular charity, the family asks for memorial contributions in his name to be made to United Hospice of Rockland c/o Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Rd, New City, NY 10956. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
