Leonard Nywening Jr, a courageous Vietnam veteran, passed away
peacefully on June 28, 2023. Born on May 16, 1946, Leonard lived a life
dedicated to service, his family, and the Lord.
Leonard served his country with unwavering commitment during the
Vietnam War. Throughout his service, he displayed remarkable bravery and
resilience, facing challenges with a steadfast determination fighting valiantly
alongside his fellow soldiers.
After returning home from his service, Leonard continued his hard work
building homes for others and developing Nywening Bros. Masonry. His
brick and stonework are unmatched and can be admired throughout the
Hudson Valley.
Leonard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished his role
as a loving husband to his wife, Jentien, for over 50 years. Leonard’s memory will forever be cherished
by his beloved wife; his children, Renee (husband Gregory), Craig, Joel (wife Keirstin), Daniel, Kurt (wife
Megan), and Gayle (husband Joseph); his grandchildren, Avery, Clayton, Kai, Kaymen, Mia, Micah,
Austin, Marley, Kayden, Ryder, Reygan, and Kinley; and numerous extended family members and
friends.
A memorial service to honor Leonard’s life will be held on Sunday, July 2, from 2-5:00 PM at Applebee-
McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown, NY. The funeral will take place on Monday, July 3, at 11:00 AM
at Hudson Valley United Reformed Church in New Hampton,NY. Burial will be at Veterans Cemetery in
Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Hudson Valley

Although Leonard is no longer with us, his legacy of service and love will continue to inspire and guide
us. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we always remember his unwavering devotion to his
country and love for his family. Rest in peace, dear veteran, for you have fought the good fight and will
be forever in our hearts.
