LEONA M. BIDWELL

July 27, 1924 - October 23, 2013

Middletown, NY

Leona M. Bidwell of Middletown, NY and Yankee Lake, Wurtsboro, NY died on October 23, 2013. The daughter of Raymond L. and Kathryn L. Andrews, she was born in Orchard, Nebraska on July 27, 1924. She was the widow of Clarence E. Bidwell and was predeceased by her parents and daughter, Joyce Stifano, two brothers, Theron and Eugene Andrews. She was 89.

A member of the Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church, now United Presbyterian Church since 1944 where she had been a Deacon and one of the first women elected as an Elder. She taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, one the the first members of the original handbell choir and a long time member of the Chancel choir, and Women’s Association. Also a member & Trustee of the former Ladies Auxiliary of Veteran Firemen, member and former Treasurer of the Garden Lovers’ Club of Middletown and Middletown High School class of ‘42 Reunion Committee. For 33 years she was the smiling face behind the desk at Kassel Brothers retail store in Middletown where she was the Office Manager.

Survivors include one son, Bruce, his wife April of Narrowsburg, NY, son-in-law Joseph Stifano of Yankee Lake, Wurtsboro NY; three grandchildren: Shannon Watts and wife, Laurie, of Port Jervis, NY, Jessica Citriniti and husband, Dominick, of Pine Bush, NY and Seth Bidwell-Gambino of Martha’s Vineyard, MA. Also 4 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Vincent, & Michael Citriniti and Logan Watts. Also sister-in-law, Catherine Andrews of Middleburgh, NY and niece and nephews.

All those who knew her will remember her as one who gave freely of herself and who was sincerely grateful for the kindness of others.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 28 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. A Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29 at the United Presbyterian Church of Middletown, 25 Orchard St., followed by a reception in the church community hall. Burial of ashes will be at 2 p.m. at Wallkill Cemetery.
