Leon Joseph Maniguet, a resident of Middletown, NY since 1959, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care after a short illness at the age of 89. Leon was the son of the late Leon Maniguet and Marie (nee Wild) Maniguet Pouliquen, born on August 11, 1924 in Sarreguemines, France.

Leon worked for the architectural firm of Paver and Wildfoester for many years. Leon was the much beloved patriarch of his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Yvette Blanche Maniguet (nee Dimofski). The loving father of two sons and their wives, Luc and his wife Jarna Randall Maniguet of Pine Bush, NY and Michel and his wife Stacy Homer Maniguet of Argyle, TX. He was a beloved grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Jacques of North Carolina and Elise of Vermont, Gerritt and Danielle, both of Texas. He is further survived by a sister-in-law Sonia Vincent, brother-in-law Jean Dimofski and his wife Michelle, a cousin Jany Aguilar and several nieces and nephews in France.

The eldest of three children, Leon was predeceased by his sister Genevieve Maniguet Walter, and brother Alain Pouliquen both of France.

Devoted to his faith, Leon was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Middletown and a participant in perpetual adoration for a number of years. Prior to coming to the United States, Leon resided in the Lorraine region of France, coming of age during the war years, and working in post war reconstruction. The greatest joys in Leon’s life were his love of family, good food and wine, and his talent for story telling. Those fortunate to know Leon were often privileged to be told one of his many wonderful and interesting stories. In his younger years, Leon was athletic, having played semi-professional soccer in France. He was a lover of long hikes, and riding his bike well into his late 60’s. Upon his retirement he became a member of the YMCA in Middletown, maintaining this membership until his recent illness.
