Larry P. Grogan, a retired NYS Trooper and longtime area resident, died with his loving family at his side on Sunday, August 18 at home. He was 77.

The son of the late John and Dorothy O’Mally Grogan, Larry was born on December 12, 1935 in Middletown. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 as a radar observer. He started with the NYS Police in June of 1961 and retired as a Senior Investigator from Troop F in 1996. He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown.

Larry is survived by his son, Sean and his wife Gayle; daughters, Colleen and her husband Bill , Jessica Laug and her husband Keith and Janet Sherlund and her husband Rick. He is also survived by his brother, John Mick Grogan and sister, Patricia Igoe; grandchildren, Mathew, Biko, Jake, Daniel and Regan and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1986 and one granddaughter, Jordan Grogan.

The family wishes to thank his Hospice team; Kristine, Pat and Ellen. Special thanks to his lifelong neighbor, Connie Raymond and his newest friends, Joe and Connie.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial with Military honors will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown, NY 10940.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be made to Hospice and Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
