Middletown, N.Y.

Kevin J. Rutkowski, a lifetime area resident , died at orange regional med center, surrounded by his family after a long and couragous battle with cancer.

Kevin was born, the 2nd of three children, to Marjorie Blades and John E. Rutkowski on July 11, 1959 in Middletown. He often lamented the problems of having the Middle Child Syndrome. He always remained a child at heart. He was a wonderful , funny and loving family man. He lived life to the fullest. He married the love of his life, Nancy on November 6, 1983 in Florida, N.Y. Kevin was an avid reader, loved history and politics and was never timid about expressing his views on either. He joined the Air Force in 1978 and proudly served our country. It was during this time in 1979 that the IranianHostage crisis took place in Tehran, Islamic Revolutionaries taking more than 60 Americans hostage. He was proud to be a part of the team that brought them home. Later in his life his sister and brother-in- law would take him to Arlington National Cemetery to visit the monuments to those who had served before him. He attended the Innaugeration of George Bush and relished his American heritage.

Kevin served as a Corrections Officer for 25 years, a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge 1097 and a member of North Congregational Church.

Throughout his recent illness his sense of humor never left him. He enjoyed talk radio, ghost hunters and was an avid reader.

He rooted for the N.Y. Mets, Jets and Rangers. With the help of Nancy, Bruce and Catherine was able to visit many of the monuments and museums in D.C. that held so much meaning to him.

Kevin is survived by his loving, devoted wife and best friend Nancy, his sister Catherine, brother Steven, nieces;Donna and Erica and nephews John and Dan and five great nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his infant son, Michael Alan,and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18th from 3p.m. -7p.m. at Applebbe-McPhillips Funeral Home.

Calling hours will conclude with an Elk’s Service at 6:30 p.m.

A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Thursday, February 19th at the Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Ruelke officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Union Cemetery in Slate Hill, N.Y.

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, N.Y.
