Kenneth E. Knapp, a longtime resident of Middletown, died at Middletown Park Rehab and Nursing Center on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 after a short illness. He was 95.
The son of Beauleh Ellis and Frank E. Knapp, he was born on Decemeber 17, 1917 in Livingston Manor. Ken joined the U.S. Army on March 11, 1942 and served in World War II until he was honorably discharged on October 6, 1945. For 6 months he was a prisioner of war in the Battle of the Buldge and received many medals for his service. He was a Life member of American Legion Post 151 and the Disabled American Veterans Post #55; a 55 year member of the Greenville VFW Post 3175, and a member of the Hudson Valley Chapter of POWS. He was also a 50 year member of the Ontario Hose Co. #5, the Veteran Firemans’ Association, North Congregational Church in Middletown and the Walden Seniors.
Ken was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Elman Knapp in 1985.
He is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Vicki Worden, his son Kevin; daughters, Arlene McClelland and her husband John of Middletown and Donna Ward of Ware, MA; 8 grandchildren, John McClelland, Jr, Laurie Motta, Holly Fox, Jeffrey McClelland, Jimmy Ward, Stephen Ward, Kenny and Katey Knapp. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jeanna Flynn, Louis Motta, James and Darin Fox, Tyler Ward; great-great-grandchildren Aniston and Liam as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers Elwin and Albert, his sisters Gladys Naughler, Julia Bailey, Irma Cox and Regina Ryan.
Visitation hours are from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY, 10940.
A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 16 at 10 am, Rev. Mike Grinnals will officiate. Burial with Military honors will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
