Obituary for Katica Jagnjic
Katica Jagnjic, a shorttime area resident of the area died Friday, December 1, 2006 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus.  She was 82 years old. The daughter of the late Pasko and Lucia Validzic, she was born October 5, 1924 in Citluk, Croatia. A family statement reads,”’Baka’, or Grandma, grew up with the Nazi’s in her backyard.  In the 1950’s she escaped her country, under communist rule, to France where she became a cook for a wealthy family.  She learned to sew and cook and her family has always benefited from her culinary skills.  One of five children, she felt blessed to realize her dream of coming to America.” She is survived by her loving son, Tomislav and his wife, Cathy, of Middletown; cherished grandchildren Tomislav Jr. and Caitlyn; and one sister Milka Validzic of Croatia. Katica was predeceased by her  brother Josip Validzic and her sister, Nada Berdik. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, December 4th  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5th at 10am at Sts. Cyril and Methodius, St. Raphael Croatian Catholic Church, 502 West 41st Street, New York, New York 10036. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cottage Street in Middletown.Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
