Kathryn M. Hunt

April 21,1930 to January 10, 2023

Middletown, NY

Kathryn (Katherine) Marie Kolodziejski Hunt, a resident of this city since 1957, died January 10, 2023, at her home. The youngest of the 10 children of the late Anton and Maryanna Nosal Kolodziejski, she was born on Easter Monday, April 21, 1930, at Goshen Hospital, Goshen, NY. She married Robert M. Hunt on February 24, 1957 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Middletown, NY, and was a communicant of that church.

Kathryn graduated from the Washingtonville Central School District, Class of 1947 and the Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture, New York City in July 1949. She was employed in this line of work in Warwick and Middletown, NY. Later she as employed in the gift dept. of the Crawford Furniture Co., Middletown. She also drove school buses for the Mid-City Transit Co. for 10 years. Kaye or Katie as she was affectionately known was an expert seamstress, having sewn a million miles for many people who couldn’t thread of needle. She was a 20-year member of “Merry Maids,” a home bureau segment of Cornell Extension Service, often saying to friends it took her 40 years to really decide what she liked to do best, that being designing and constructing costumes.

Together with her husband of 65 years, 10 months, and 17 days, they were instrumental in introducing and forming the first western square dance club in Orange County. They also were members, officers, and past president of the Country Cousins camping club, affiliated with the National Campers and Hikers Association. Katie was the unofficial historian for her senior high school class and, along with the class president, was instrumental in organizing the 50th class reunion in 1997. The seniors of 1947 were invited to participate in the graduation of the 1997 seniors as their escorts.

Among her many attributes, she was associated with the OCCC Bookstore for several years and was Orange County Board of Elections senior part-timer in excess of 15 years. She was a member of the Ellis Island Foundation and very proud of her Polish-American heritage and was a contributing member of Thirteen/WNET, NY; North Shore Animal League; Hudson Valley Polonaise Society; Eastern Paralyzed Vet’s Association; Disabled American Vets; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, at home and three daughters: Regina L. Schlick and husband William of Blowing Rock, NC; Maureen A. Hunt, at home; and Paula F. Hunt-Harkey and husband Mitchell of Spring Valley, CA. She is also survived by grandson William Andrew Schlick and wife Lisa of Zionville, NC.

Kathryn was predeceased by her daughter Barbara E. Hunt on May 29, 2000; her parents; and nine siblings and their respective spouses.

We thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., for the care they provided Kathryn from July 2019 to January 2023. We especially thank Brandy K., RN and Sue K., LPN for their exceptional, dignified care of Kathryn through Kathryn’s final breath.
