Obituary for Katherine V. Phil
Katherine V. Phil of Lake Ariel, Pa., died on Saturday, April 22 at home. She was 94.
The daughter of the late John and Margaret Trembetsky Mihaliik, she was born on February 13, 1912 in NYC, N.Y.
She married Andrew Phil on August 28, 1937 at St. John's Church in Spring Valley. Originally from Monsey, Katherine was a resident of Bloomingburg from 1985-1998. During that time, Katherine and her husband Andrew became members of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. She worked as a seamstress and sample maker in Spring Valley.
A family statement reads: "She was a calm in the storm. She stayed strong throughout all her ordeals; her nurses said she had 29 lives. We will remember her as hard-working and determined, and devoted to her family. She was a wonderful baker and a generous, talented seamstress, who never let her illness get in the way of her sewing for her loved ones. She was deeply loved."
She is survived by her son, John Phil and his wife Trudy of Stony Point; daughter Elaine Willar and her husband Allan of Shohola, Pa.; brother Joseph Mihalik and his wife Ruth of Enumclaw, Wash.; five grandchildren: Timothy, Teri, Audra, John Michael, and Laura; and three grandchildren: Jeffrey, Scott and Alexandria.
Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Andrew on March 2, 2002; both of her parents; one sister Margaret Pisko; and one brother, John Mihalik.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Goshen Turnpike, Middletown. Fr. Chris Talleos will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Katherine's name may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
