June Sarah Barrett
June 19, 1915-November 14, 2014
Slate Hill, NY
June Sarah Barrett, 99, of Slate Hill, NY went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2014.
She was born to Clark and Sarah Young Wood on June 19, 1915 near Marron, Pa. She was married to John Barrett on September 30, 1933 and they had 5 children together. In 1957, they moved to Chester, NY and resided there until 1963 when they moved to Slate Hill, NY. Although New York was her new home, her roots and her family remained in Western Pennsylvania. She was often heard saying, “My family back home”.
She was a full time mother and homemaker who loved having her family near her, building a strong foundation for their lives. She was known by many over the years for her homemade bread, cookies, and pink candy. “Grandmas Barrett’s” arms were always open to neighborhood children when they would stop by on baking day to share a hot slice of bread and butter with her. June was a true lady who always shared her faith in God and many stories of her earlier years. For the last year of her life she made her home with Sarah and Rob and her great-grandchildren, Elise, Lucas, and Jenna. The care and the love she received was appreciated by her and all family members. A special thank you to Sammy who cared for her and became part of Grandma’s family.
June is survived by one brother, Gordon Wood of Curwensille, PA; her children, Virginia and her husband Calvin Barrett, Leslie Barrett, Joyce and her husband Kurt Brewer, and Larry and his wife Mary Barrett and Vivian and her husband John McArthur; and sister-in-law, Rosella Wood. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, Sharon, Glenna, Jerry, Patty, Missy, Becky, Ginny, Keith, Erika, Jurgen, Cindy, Ray, Michael, Katie, Sarah, Mandy and Angie; 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brothers, and sisters; Lula, Cleo, Okley, Mildred, Ward, Woodrow, Mae, Edward and Gilbert as well as her husband John and daughter-in-law Doris.
