Jumel Muhummud Alston of Middletown, New York, entered into rest on January 1, 2017 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
The son of Earl Mays and Denise Alston, Jumel was born on April 7, 1980 in Bronx, New York. He was raised in the Bronx and Albany, New York. Jumel graduated from New London High School in New London, Connecticut in 1998. He earned an Associates Degree in the Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina in 2001. Jumel served his country in the United States Army for 14 years with great pride and honor, completing two tours in Iraq and obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He earned two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Campaign Medals, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Medal, and a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. At the time of his passing, he was employed at the United States Mint as a metal forming machine operator in West Point, New York.
Jumel was known for his great sense of humor and was the life of the party. He enjoyed spending time with his son, family, and friends, eating, traveling, fishing, watching movies and television. He will be greatly missed by many.
Jumel leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife, Andrea Johnson-Alston, his beloved son, Jumel Alston, Jr., his parents, Earl Mays and Denise Alston, his sisters, Shane Counts, Meeghan Myers, Larhonda Mays, Ashley Mays, and Lenise Lewis, his brothers, Earl Commodore, Rayshawn Lewis, Andre Lewis, and Daron Mays, several nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Transformation Church, 160 Blumel Road, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial with Military honors will follow at Orange County Veterans cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
