Juliette Lia, a longtime resident of Westtown, died on Tuesday March 30 surrounded by her loving family following a long illness. She was 19.
The daughter of Salvatore and Mary Arena Lia, she was born on January 27, 1991 in Haverstraw, NY.
Juliette was a graduate of Minisink Valley High School, where she was a member of the Honor Society, the chorus, Chamber Choir and the swim team. She worked at High Point Country Club in Montague, NJ as a lifeguard. Juliette was currently in her sophomore year at Albright College and was proud to have been inducted to her sorority, Phi Mu this last Sunday.
Juliette's strength and resilience was both remarkable and inspirational; she never gave up and her outlook was always positive. She valued her education highly, and she worked hard to stay in school throughout her illness.
She is survived by her parents, Sal and Mary and her brother, Alex, all at home; grandparents, Joseph and Mary Arena and Frank and Phyllis Lia; aunts and uncles, Louis Arena, Angela and Thomas Gubitosa, Joseph Arena, Jr and his fiance Vera, all of Rockland County, Tracey and John Farrell, April and Michael Orcutt, Cathy Lia and her fiance Kurt. She is also survived by her loving cousins, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Jacqueline, Brandon, Tyler, Ali, Jason, Cierra, Connor and many caring friends.
Cremation will be held at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 pm on Friday, April 2, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 9 am on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Holy Cross Church, South Centerville Road, South Centerville, NY.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Juliette’s life at Slate Hill Firehouse following the funeral service.
