Obituary for Julie Miller
On Thursday April 1, 2021, Julie Miller, loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away at age 69.
A Halloween baby, Julie grew up in Hillsdale New Jersey where she developed an early and consuming love of horses. She became an accomplished rider, competing with her horse Krishna in Grand Prix events. As a teenager, Julie embraced the 1960s counterculture movement. Its values of peaceful protest, civil rights, environmentalism and inclusion were her credo. She devoted her professional career to teaching children and teenagers with intellectual and emotional disabilities in the classroom and riding ring. Julie had especially fond memories of the eclectic and fun-loving people she worked with at Community School and the Nature Place Day Camp.
Outside of work, she was happiest at the stable with her horses and dogs, out to dinner with friends and watching her grandchildren play. She made up for a difficult family life by creating a loving and stable home for her son with former husband Sam, and surrounding them in a network of close friends. Julie was preceded in death by her half-sister Betty. She is survived by her half-sister and brother Anna and Allen, son and daughter-in-law Kris and Ally, grandkids Reed and Leah, horse Impy and dog Sunny. A memorial gathering will take place in the fall. Donations in her memory may be made to petsalive.org.
