Judith Bridget Jackman, 81, (nee Cammarano) of Middletown, NY, died peacefully at home on Thursday, December 15, 2022 with her daughter, Lynn Gail, by her side.
Judy was born on April 29, 1941, in Paterson, NJ, to Samuel and Mary Cammarano, (who pre-deceased her). She was also predeceased by her husbands-Richard DeRosa, Lynn’s father, and Michael Jackman. Judy attended St. Anne’s elementary school and graduated from East Rutherford H.S. After high school, she graduated from secretarial school. Throughout her 62-year career, Judy worked in various secretarial and administrative assistant positions. While working for Arani Travel, Judy went on a safari to Africa, and visited other foreign locales. Judy worked for more than 25 years, until her retirement in 2019, as the administrative assistant for the English Department of Orange County Community College, in Middletown, NY. Countless students owe parts of their academic success to Judy.
Judy was a “social butterfly”. She loved being part of groups in which she could help people meet new friends and make new connections. She established the local chapter of Widows and Widowers group. She prided herself on the number of new relationships that were formed. Judy loved to dance, and met her life-long ballroom dance partner, Guiseppe Leto in the group. The other great love of Judy’s life was her membership in the Newburgh Magenta Mommas chapter of the Red Hat Society. Judy was very active in this group and attended almost every outing and activity, until her illness forced her to withdraw. Judy was a true example of sisterhood. She will be greatly missed.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Lynn Gail DeRosa Steinback (Scott); her loving brothers and sisters; James Cammarano (Mary Lou) of Oak Ridge, NJ; Samuel Cammarano Jr. (Kathy) of Laguna Niguel, CA; Dolores Choteborsky of Clifton, NJ; Marianne Cammarano of Franklin, NJ; and Regina Radomski of East Hanover, NJ; many nieces and nephews; several cousins; and a host of friends and colleagues. She was deeply loved by all who know her.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan counties or The People to People Fund of Middletown, NY.
The family requests that visitors wear colorful clothing in Judy’s honor.
