Joyce Pemberton Smith

Joyce Pemberton Smith, of Middletown, died unexpectedly on December 22, 2020, at Garnet Health Medical Center.
The daughter of the late Russell and Genevieve Daly Pemberton, Joyce was born on June 3, 1935, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She attended schools in Alexandria, Virginia, and Washington, DC where she graduated from high school. She attended SUNY Delhi where she met and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Smith. The couple have been married for 64 years.
Bob and Joyce began married life in Sussex, New Jersey, before moving to Middletown in 1971.
Joyce retired from Hercules, Inc. (Polak’s Frutal Works, PFW) where she worked for many years as a Technical Data Coordinator in Product Safety Assurance. She was known there for her cheerful spirit.
Joyce and Bob enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling, and were members of The Trotters camping group, The Hudson Valley Ramblers and the Cornwall Yacht Club. Their vacations were spent touring the US in their motor home. But their greatest joy was spending time with their family.
As a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Middletown, Joyce filled many roles and was a dedicated volunteer at the Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen.
Joyce is survived by her children: Jacqueline Moshier and her husband, Wayne, of Middletown, and Glenn Smith of Milford, PA; their grandchildren Christopher Moshier and his wife, Rebecca, Kimberly Moshier, and Troy, Trevor and Tyler Smith; and their great-grandson, Mason Moshier. She was predeceased by her brother, Russell Pemberton.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 12 Depot Street, Middletown, NY 10940.

Robert (Bob) Davenport Smith, of Middletown, died on December 25, 2020, at Garnet Health Medical Center after a short illness.
The son of the late Everett Brand Smith and Martha Searling Davenport Smith, Bob was born on November 8, 1934, in Orange, New Jersey. Bob grew up and attended schools in Essex Fells, New Jersey, before attending SUNY Delhi where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce. The couple have been married for 64 years.
Bob began his lifelong career with Agway as an Agriculture and Dairy Specialist in Sussex, New Jersey. While living there, Bob served on the school board for the Wantage School District and was involved in the Sussex Kiwanis. The family moved to Middletown in 1971. Bob’s favorite part of his job with Agway was visiting the local farms, chatting with the farmers, and stopping by local eateries for lunch.
Both Joyce and Bob enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling, and were members of The Trotters camping group, the Hudson Valley Ramblers and the Cornwall Yacht Club. Their vacations were spent touring the US in their motor home. But their greatest joy was spending time with their family.
Bob was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Middletown, where he filled many roles, most notably as Chairman of the Finance Committee and as a hard-working member of Buildings and Grounds.
Bob is survived by his children: Jacqueline Moshier and her husband, Wayne, of Middletown, and Glenn Smith of Milford, PA; their grandchildren Christopher Moshier and his wife, Rebecca, Kimberly Moshier, and Troy, Trevor and Tyler Smith; and their great-grandson, Mason Moshier. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Kunath.
