Obituary for Joseph O'Kelley
Joseph O'Kelley, five year resident of the area, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Park Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was 83 years old.The son of the late Charles Thomas and Johanna Duncan O'Kelley, Joseph was born September 9, 1923 in Natchez, Miss.A Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Joseph defended his country during World War II, and was a decorated veteran. Continuing his service to his country, he later worked for the United States Post Office in St. Louis, Mo., until his retirement.He relocated to the Middletown area in 2002 with his wife, Annette. Joe led a vital life; his favorite pastime was golf, he was an award-winning gymnast in his youth and he worked as a swimming instructor for the Y.M.C.A.A Family Statement reads: "He was a strong-willed man with a great sense of humor. We will always remember him as a loving father and husband".Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Annette; daughter, Jonette Cecile O'Kelley Miller and her husband, Earl Sanders Miller, Jr.; and one grandson, Isaiah Earl Joseph Miller, all of Middletown.He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Thomas O'Kelley, Daniel Smith O'Kelley; two sisters, Dorris Elliotte Minter and Isabel Cecile O'Kelley; brother-in-law, Nelson Minter, and sister-in-law, Frances O'Kelley.Family and friends are invited to call Friday, April 6, 2007 from 10 to 12 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Joe McKelvey will officiate.Memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of the Hudson Valley, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 203, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-4027.Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
