Joseph H. Martin, 77, passed into the arms of Jesus on September 5, 2021.
He was born on February 7, 1944 in East Orange, NJ and was the son of Kenneth Martin and Audrey Edsall Martin. Joe graduated from Middletown High School in 1963 and enlisted in the US Army until leaving with an Honorable discharge in 1966. He attended Ithaca College for Business Administration and Nursing Home License.
Prior to working in nursing, Joe worked in other fields in Human Resources. Joe was a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Administration and was awarded a plaque for all the requirements to a public Health Law License to Practice Nursing Home Administration in NY State. Joe was an officer in the New York State Health Care Association. Joe was a member of the New York State Health Facilities Association (NYSFA) in which all the local nursing homes could participate. For 30 years, he was a Proprietor and Lead Executive Administrator at Middletown Park Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Joe was a member of the Elks Lodge, President of Little League as well as a coach.
After moving to Florida, he was very involved in the community and served as the Maintenance Committee Chair for many years. He loved playing golf and loved his tiny Chihuahua Jose whom he took with him just about everywhere. From the time
Joe was a young man, he loved playing oldie music just about every day. He loved going to oldie concerts.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife Sandra LaPenna Martin; children Darla Conklin, Deborah Boddie and her husband Matt, Charles Williams and Ronald Williams and his wife Sandra; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; two step-children Tammy Tresch and her partner Patrick and William Burch; 5 step-grandchildren; siblings Kenneth Martin and wife Sandra, Dennis Martin and wife Linda, Mary Ward and husband Roger, JoAnn Hannah and several nephews.
After retirement, Joe moved to Crystal River, FL but continued to have close ties to his many friends in the Middletown Community. Joe was a kind and gentle man and devoted to his wife and family. His hard work is completed here and now he can rest and be free from pain. He will be dearly missed.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial of ashes with Military honors will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10940. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Research.
