July 5, 1953 - October 20, 2013

Bloomingburg, NY

Joseph D. Collaro passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 20, 2013. Joseph was born on July 5, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY.

Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lorraine (Cauldfield) Collaro and his second wife, Sandi Kristal-Collaro in 2008.

Joe leaves behind his loving wife, Cathleen (Cassidy) Collaro; son, Sgt. Joseph Collaro (of the US Army) and his wife, Elizabeth of Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX; daughter, Jennifer Collaro of Middletown; grandchildren: Alexia, Yzabella, Samantha, Caden and Xavier, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert and his wife, Kathy of Palm Coast, FL and Michael and his wife, Denise of Spring Lake, NJ; sister, MaryAnn Treglia and her husband, Mike of Pennsylvania; Uncle Daniel Cauldfield and his wife, Mary of Wisconsin; mother-in-law, Helen Cassidy at home; brothers-in-law: James Cassidy and his wife, Patrice of Canter Moriches, NY and Donald Cassidy of Bloomingburg; former wife, Grace Collaro of Monticello, many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friends whom he considered his second family: Paul and Deborah Weatherwax of Middletown; his biker family with whom shared his love of riding (Joe was never more at peace then when he was on a bike). His Lowe's family who made him happy to go to work every day, especially Pete and Michelle (whom he looked forward to having lunch with every day). Last but not least, he is survived by his Jets family who shared his passion for NY Jets football. He always looked forward to seeing his tailgate crew and serving up his latest BBQ idea.

Joe was employed by Lowe's in Chester as the P.S.A. Department Manager. He was a fallen brother, 10 year member and past president of the A.B.A.T.E. Motorcycle organization of Orange County.

A statement from his beloved wife, Cathleen reads, "He was a fine man who brought his charm, wit, laughter and love of life everywhere he went. Joe always gave his best for those around him. We may have had a short time together but we had a lifetime of love that not too many are lucky enough to have had. Joe was the best husband anyone could have wished for. Heaven gained an angel. He will be forever loved and missed."

Visitation hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 25th, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26th, at the Church of the Infant Savior, 22 Holland Avenue, Pine Bush, NY 12566.

In honor of Joe's love of the Jets, fans are requested to wear their jerseys to his services.

The family wishes to thank their neighbors, the Town of Crawford Police, Mobile Life and Orange Regional Medical Center staff for their exceptional care and compassion.Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
