Joseph Dominick Henry, a retired civil engineer, died following a long illness surrounded by loving friends and family on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 60.
The son of Leon and Pearl Seidman Henry, he was born on April 8, 1954 in Brooklyn. One of nine children, he overcame incredible odds to achieve his goals in life. Joe earned his Engineering degree at the University of Buffalo and worked most recently in Water Treatment for Stan-tec in Newburgh.
Joe was a friend of Bill W’s and led many by the power of his example. He had an amazing effect on others and his influence was far-reaching-he found a way into everyone’s heart. Reflecting on his life, Joe described himself as having a good sense of humor, sensitive, creative, intelligent, caring and helpful. Those who were fortunate to have known Joe, concur. Wherever he went, people loved him. He enjoyed being around people, playing with his animal buddies, helping others and biking and camping. Joe was also an accomplished yoga practitioner who will be missed by his yoga family.  May his memory be for a blessing.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph David Henry and Michael Raymond William Henry and their mother, Lisa, all of Greenville; one brother, Everett Henry and his wife Donna of SC,; sisters, Sandy Brooks and her longtime companion Julio Colon of the Bronx, and Naomi Michaelson and her husband Lee of Baltimore, MD, Dee Spain and her husband Bill of Flagstaff, AZ and Antonia Cruz of Plattsburgh, NY; numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.
He was predeceased by his three brothers, Larry and David Seidman and Lee Henry.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 8 pm at the Hall at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Rt. 17 K, Bullville, NY 10915.
