Joseph Cantoli, of Middletown, New York died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 29,2018 at Kindred Hospital in Dover, New Jersey. He was 86 years old.
The son of Amalia Barone and Antonio Cantoli, he was born in Middletown, New York. He returned to Abruzzi, Italy as a toddler and then returned to our area in 1951.
Joe married Anna Sorice in 1959, and they were blessed with 2 sons and 1 daughter, and who were the light of his life. He made sure he was a part of every special occasion and adored his grandchildren. He was an avid Yankee fan and was a soccer enthusiast. He loved his gardening and spent any free time he had working on his planting.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Anna, two sons; Anthony “Joe” Cantoli and his wife Theresa of Slate Hill, New York, and Michael and daughter-in-law Dina Cantoli of Middletown, New York; Daughter: Lisa Davignon and her husband Ronald of Slate Hill, New York. He is also survived by sisters Nicolete Settimio and her husband Aspirino of Canton, Ohio, and Ada and Nick Macsi of New Paltz, New York, his sister-in law Maria Cantoli of Abruzzi, Italy; his brother Frank Cantoli and his wife Phyllis of New Windsor, New York, nine grandchildren; Justin, Christopher, and Annalyssa Davignon, Jenna, Joelle and Julia Cantoli, and Mia, Sophia and Giavonna Cantoli, and 10 nieces and nephews, four of which live in Italy; Nicolino, Sandra, Amalia and Antonio and Tino Lore, our exchange student from Germany who became part of our family and will always remain a very special person to us.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Amalia Barone and Antonio Cantoli, his brother, Umberto Cantoli, and sister Elizabeth Valentine and her husband Dominic
Visitation will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s.
