Obituary for Joseph C. Rohe
Joseph C. Rohe, fondly known as Papa Joe, of Bloomingburg NY, passed away suddenly at the Delaware Valley Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.
Joe was born in the Bronx on January 8, 1943 to Harold and Kathryn Tiedmann Rohe.
At the age of 8, Joe began his journey towards developing a strong work ethic when attempting to purchase a tea pot for his mother from Milton East Chester Hardware store. The store owner hired Joe enabling Joe to earn the money for the purchase. Joe held onto this job until the age of 18. During his youth, Joe was known to help his neighbors with snow removal, Christmas decorating and other miscellaneous Jobs.
Joe began his career at Con Edison as an entry level custodian and worked his was up to the deparment of Emergency Services until his retirement in 2001 after 39 years.
After retiring from Con Edison, Joe joined the Bloomingburg Fire Company volunteering as part of the Fire Police. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed watching the Mets while drinking a cold Budwiser.
Joe was a caring, fun loving, creative and resourceful problem solver whom everyone loved, including Carmela who fell in love with Joe. They married in 1964 and raised 5 children together.
Joseph is survived by his five loving children, James (Lori), Joseph Jr. (Michelle), of Washingtonville, Dennis (Kimberly) of Tuxedo, NY, Lisa Ogilvie of Bloomingburg and Karen Conklin (William) of Port Jervis, as well as two sisters, Anne Bush of Oklahoma and Kathryn Trezza of the Bronx. Joe was proud of his children and often told people "if there was nothing else he did right in life, he had great children."
He is further survived by his seven cherished grandchildren, Angela, Justine, James, Nicholas, Nicole, Megan and Christopher, great grandchildren; Taylor, Meadow, and arriving soon, baby girl Gracelynn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Carmela and son in law Wayne Oglivie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7pm.
Cremation will be private.
