John Sciacca, Jr., a retired New York City lighting designer, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Warwick, NY. He was 79.
The son of the late John and Josephine Maggi Sciacca, he was born on August 24, 1937 in New York, NY. On April 28,1962, he married the love of his life, Yetta “Kitty” Orloff, in the Bronx. They would have shared 55 years of marriage together next month. John and Kitty moved to Greenville in 1961 and he operated his business, creating lighting for all of the major department stores in New York City.
He was an Army reservist, a founding member of the Greenville Lions Club and a dedicated member of the Slate Hill Pacers. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time at his lake home at Wolf Lake. He, Kitty and the entire family loved fishing, sailing and all of the wonderful friends they found at the lake. He was a math expert and liked playing pinocle with friends and family.
John is surived by his loving wife, Yetta “Kitty” at home; his sons, Andrew and his wife Kimberley of Durham, N.C. and John Sciacca, III at home in Middletown; and daughter, Joy Palazzola and her husband Anthony of Goshen. He counted his grandchildren among his greatest acheivements in his life; Kaylee, Andrew, Jr and Anthony, III.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2 to 6 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Holy Cross Church, 626 Co. Rt. 22, Middletown, NY 10940. Cremation will be private at Cedar Hill Crematory.
