John J. Burns died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 83 years old.

He was born in Brooklyn, on May 5, 1929 to the late Joseph and May Wolfburger Burns.

John was survived by his loving son, Raymond J. Burns and his beloved grandchildren, who lovingly called him ”Topo”, Joseph and Nicole and her fiancé Chris, all of Middletown.

He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and two sons, John during the Vietnam War on August 6, 1971 and Jimmy who died on December 9, 1993.

John was a dad, with a wonderful sense of humor, who always put his family first. His son and grandchildren brought him much delight and enjoyed his great sense of humor. John was an outdoor-man, he hunted, was a club champ at target shooting, enjoyed making, tinkering and fixing things. He was patriotic, and always proud of his Marine service in the 1st Marine Division, Fifth Marines, 2nd Batallion, Fifth Brigade with weapon co. He was also one of the “frozen chosen”. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2012 from 6 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A funeral service with Military honors will be held at 8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Cremation will be private.
