Obituary for John H. Laskaris
JOHN H. LASKARISJuly 15, 1955 - January 26, 2012Goshen, NYJohn H. Laskaris, a Senior Probation Officer for Orange County Probation Dept., died on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center with his family by his side, after a brave battle with a long illness. He was 56. The son of the late Helene E. Arvanities and Alexander Laskaris, John was born on July 15, 1955 in Middletown. John was a lifetime Middletown resident and graduated from MHS Class of 1973. He finished his education with a Masters' degree from Long Island University at CW Post. He also was a graduate of the Police Academy and was a Paramedic at Horton Hospital. He was very civically active and was a member of the McQuoids Fire Company in Middletown, B.P.O. Elks 1097, a volunteer for Town of Wallkill Ambulance Corps and was a Little League and Soccer coach in both Middletown and Goshen.
His children were his life, he loved their trips to Disney World. He as an avid, but composed Mets fan. He will be remembered by his family as forever loyal and brave. John was always an inspiration to others, his brilliant sense of humor brought a smile to all. He never lost his humor, even in the last days of his illness. He was someone who could be counted on to always help lend a hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his son, Andrew John Laskaris; daughter, Christina Marie Laskaris of Goshen and her fiancé, Lucas Rau, all of Goshen; his brother, Peter and his wife, Christine; nephew, Christopher, all of Middletown, and god-daughter, Molly Bergin of Highland.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 30 at Aplebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, at Grace Epispocal Church, Depot Street, Middletown. Rev. Fr. John Warfel will preside. Cremation will be private.
Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
