John Gerard Mahnken of Middletown died November 17, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hopice Residence surrounded by his loving family . He was 49 years old.
The son of the late John and Philomena “Fannie” Alexander Mahnken, he was born on October 31, 1960 in Yonkers, NY. John was always sweet, kind, caring and compassionate always putting everyone else first. With his larger than life personality, he was often referred to as the “Mayor” everywhere he went. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife Darlene, his son John Joseph, daughter Janine Marie and stepson James Lewandowski, brother Glen and his wife Linda of Massapequa and sister Michele Pizzuto and her husband Alfred of Putnam Valley and his three nephews A.J., Max and Jake.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY. Cremation will be private at the convenience of the family.
