Obituary for John C. Winship
JOHN C. WINSHIP
June 21, 1944 - July 5, 2017
Middletown, NY
John C. Winship, a retired custodian for the Middletown School District, died after a lengthy illness at orange Regional Medical Center with his loving family at his bedside.
One of seven children of the late Howard and Helen Ryan Winship, he was born in Warwick, New York on June 21, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and was always proud of his service to our country during the Vietnam War.
John and his siblings grew up very close. The death of their parents early in their childhood taught them the importance of looking out for one another. It is a value that has been transferred to all their relatives. While John was a quiet and independent personality, his love of his grandkids, his generosity and his tremendous work ethic was known to all that knew him.
He is survived by his devoted stepdaughter, Joann Saenz and her partner, Chip Rothmond; other stepchildren: Jim Mance and his wife, Tracy of Tucson, Arizona, and Barbara Parken in Sullivan County, as well as his siblings, Mary (Bett) and her husband, Robert Kaczmar, Thomas and his wife, Rose, and Walter; sisters-in-law, Gert and Elaine Winship, 12 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He is pre-deceased by his companion of 28 years, Roberta Mance, and grandson, Miles; his brothers: Charles, Lawrence and William; and sisters-in-law, Genevieve and Patricia Winship.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. A Burial of Cremains with Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at 11 a.m. in Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY.
