Obituary for John C. Schwartz
John C. Schwartz
1/1/1943-12/6/20
Slate Hill, NY
Mr. John (Jack) Schwartz passed away on December 6, 2020, at 77 years old. Jack was a New Year’s Day baby, so the start of every year was always special for two reasons. Jack was a devoted husband, wonderful father and friend to many. Together with his wife, Norma P. Schwartz, they raised four children. Jack will be remembered for his dry, silly humor and wit, which made him a sharp businessman and friend to many. The family’s “Jack-of-all-trades” worked hard in his earlier years, as he earned many higher degrees which he opened Schwartz Realty and worked many years with local and commercial properties. Later in life, he kept busy fixing up cars and snowmobiles. Time spent on the snow with his youngest son and fishing with his oldest son from up state NY to Alaska were some of his happiest and simplest times. He took care of his children’s families through tough times which made him a mentor, financial officer, and even cook. His idea of cooking meant trips to the grocery store and diners.
He was an incredible grandfather. Jack loved his seven grandchildren, supporting them as a counselor and friend. And he was always available to offer a listening ear or serve as a Walmart co-shopper. He taught his grandchildren about fishing, cars, camping and boating – the finer things in life! Jack found humor in watching his grandkids grow and always made sure to laugh at the innocent moments in their lives.
Jack was unfailingly loyal to his wife as they were married at the tender age of nineteen years old and had many great times together with their grandchildren, he had a heart too big for his own good, it was often what led his decisions of love. He also loved his hunting trips, and a good day at the lake. For Jack, nothing was ever too broke to fix – even his family. In his final days Jack was determined to reconnect his grandchildren and stressed the importance of family. For every act of love and kindness, his grandchildren will always be thankful.
Jack always had a twinkle in his eye, a mischievous smile, and arms that gave the best bear hugs. He was unbelievably intelligent, tenacious and morally sound. And he always knew when someone needed a hearty meal and an even heartier conversation.
Our Father was our family’s patriarch, hero and steady rock. A piece of our heart will always be missing.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years – Norma P. Schwartz; four children – Terri Schwartz Blanchard, Debra Schwartz Butensky, John A. Schwartz, and David A. Schwartz; Seven grandchildren – Christopher, Michael, Lauren, Matthew, Danny, Abby and Sarah; and Two great grandchildren – Liel and Asher.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10:00-11:30 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown NY 10940. with a Service of Remembrance at 11:30 am, Rev. Dorinda Violante officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Ridgebury Cemetery.
