Obituary for John C. Birch
John C. Birch entered into rest unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Orange Regional Medical Center.
John was a veteran and served in the United States Coast Guard from November, 1963 to November, 1967. John was a great man. He loved his family and his friends. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He will be missed by so many.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 27, 1944. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Christian Birch and his mother, Jean Adelaide Hansen. John moved to Middletown, NY on August 15, 1973. He worked at Reynold’s and Ball from August, 1973 to May, 2005. He retired after 32 years there, and then went on to work at Orange Regional Medical Center from May, 2005 until he fully retired in 2018.
John is survived by his companion of 5 years, Nancy M. Benedict of Middletown, NY; two sons, Johnathan Birch and wife Kristen of Fredrick, CO, and Christopher Birch and his wife Kathryn of Lakewood, CO; six grandchildren, Jacob, Kensley, Landon, Lydia, Lacie, and Lakely; one brother Ernest (Ernie) Birch, and Nancy’s children, John, Jennifer, and Neil, who all grew very fond of John. He was predeceased by his sister Karen Birch.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a private service will be held at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY on Thursday, April 30, 2020. John will be buried in the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
