Middletown, NY

John A. Barden of Middletown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Saturday July 2, 2011. He was 71.

The son of the late Oscar and Dorothea Rogers Barden, he was born on March 27, 1940 in New York, NY. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. John married Marion Eyth, at St. Ann’s Church in N.Y.C.on December 14, 1966.

A 29 year resident of the area, John was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown. John worked as a Stationary Engineer for the N.Y.C. Board of Education. He was an amateur inventor and patented some of his own inventions during his lifetime. He was a devout Catholic who had a special devotion to St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed a good party and loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marion at home; two sons, James and his wife Marija of Howell, NJ and John and his wife Lori of Camp Hill, PA; three sisters, Monica Edwards and Catherine Vernon and her husband William, all of Milford, CT and Anna May Sousae and her husband George of Phelan, CA ; seven beloved grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Charles and Michael.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, July 6, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial

with Military honors will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
