John Holterman, Jr., a retired Corrections Officer, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 69.The son of the late Adeline Borek and John Holterman, Sr., he was born on March 25, 1944 in Yonkers. John proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-67. He married Geraldine Rufo in Yonkers on April 13, 1969.Family was his devotion, he always made sure that his family was taken care of. He worked seven days a week to make that happen. He played baseball as a young man and was even offered the opportunity to play for the Milwaukee Braves, but had to decline to enlist in the Service. He enjoyed both football and baseball and was a fan of the NY Mets and The Giants.He is survived by his wife, Gerri, at home; son, Robert Holterman of Middletown and daughter, Denise Hundeland and her husband, Kurt of Wurtsboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rebecca Holterman and Joseph Hundeland and his sisters: Doris Bennetts and Arlene Kuchman and her husband, Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, October 10th, burial will follow in the family plot in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
