Obituary for Joan Schaller
Joan Schaller passed away peacefully on December 15, 2006 in Goodrich, Mich. under the care of her family and Genesys Hospice.The daughter of the late Louis Hohenstein and Dorothy Campbell, she was born August 4, 1932 in New York City.After graduating from Hunter Prep School, Joan attended Hunter College in Manhattan. She was the first female Parts Manager of Mayer of Westchester and then moved into the Sales Division for Saab, as well as working as a Sales Representative and spokesperson at the New York Auto Shows for numerous years. Later, Joan worked in the Marketing and Sales Division for the Remington Hotel Industry and was a personal tax preparer for many years.While living in New York City, she sang professionally as a member of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest Choir. In addition, she loved Middle - Eastern music and pursued her passion of folk dancing and took part in the Pine Island Onion Festival in Pine Island, N.Y. Joan was a great inspiration to her family and friends and continued to have a wonderful outlook on life during her illness.She is survived by her son, Laurence of Dover, N.H.; daughters: Laura of Davenport, N.Y., Elizabeth of Amarillo, Texas, Patricia of Asbury, N.J., and Jennifer of Goodrich, Mich.; grandchildren: Melanie, Nickolas, Garrett, Jacob, Thomas, Samuel and Madeleine; and one great-grandchild, Julianna.There will be no visitation.A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, December 23, at 11 a.m. at the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church, 367 Blumel Road, with Pastor Jean Risley officiating. Burial will follow in the Scotchtown Presbyterian Cemetery.Donations in Joan's name may be made to the Genesys Hospice Center, Attn: Cheryl Larmore, 7280 South State Rd., Goodrich, MI 48438.Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
