Joan M. Decker, a retired Registered Nurse, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

The daughter of the late Martha Bodley Brown and John M. Brown, Sr., she was born on December 17, 1948 in Ossining, NY. She trained and worked as a nurse at Middletown Psychiatric Center. Joan married Linden “Butch” Decker on May 4, 1979 in Middletown. Butch predeceased her only last month on March 13. Joan loved traveling and spending time with her best friend, Alice. She was volunteer at Mulberry House in Middletown and a deacon at her church, Scotchtown Presbyterian. She was a member of Mulberry House Seniors, Wallkill Seniors, the Retired Traveling Friends. She and Alice also traveled with Goshen Seniors.

Joan is survived by her sister, Janice McDonald and her husband Edward of West Coxackie, NY and her brother John M. Brown, Jr and his wife Susan, of New Baltimore, NY; niece Shannon Radliff and nephew Michael Radliff and great-niece, Crysta and Butch’s children, John Decker, Chris Decker, Scott Decker and his wife Jeanine and Tammy Haag and her husband Jimmy and their families. She was also blessed with many close and loving friends.

Joan is now in the company of her beloved husband, Butch and their cherished pet, Zeus.

Visitation hours are from 9 to 11 am on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Pastor Matt Johnstone will conduct a funeral service at 11 am at the funeral home on Thursday morning. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.

Donations in Joan’s name may be made to her church, Scotchtown Presbyterian Church, 367 Blumel Road, Middletown, NY 10940.
