Obituary for Joan Ann McAteer
Joan Ann McAteer longtime resident of Middletown, entered into rest January 1, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Casey O' Connell, born on August 9, 1930 in Brooklyn.

Joan was a dedicated volunteer at Orange Regional Medical Center for 20 years, she starting out as the "Cookie Lady” then working the front desk as a greeter. The hospital, patients, nurses, doctors, and visitors were her life. She spoke of them every single day with pride, love, and kindness; she treasured her time there.

Joan is survived by her son Robert McAteerJr, and his wife Jayna her daughter Gail Blackwell and her husband Joseph all of Middletown, sister-in-law Irma O’Connell, and her loving grandchildren William and his companion Jen, Christopher and his wife Meghan, Kevin and Debra Blackwell, Greg, Trish McAteer, Matthew, and Andrew Trifari and Great grandchildren Liam and Bryn Blackwell.

She was predeceased by her three brothers Robert, Edwin (Lefty), and Michael and granddaughter Meghan Trifari.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Meghan Trifari Musical Scholarship Fund, c/o Pine Bush Central School District, P.O. Box 700 Pine Bush, NY

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday January 4 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am at St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville with Fr. Pat McGuigan officiating , Thursday, January 5. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY.
