Obituary for Joan A. Gentile
Joan Ann Gentile, of Middletown, died Friday, July 12, 2013 during her annual family reunion visit to Clarksville, Virginia. She was 70 years old. Born Joan Gordon to James M. and Eileen Gordon in Manhattan, NY on February 25, 1943.

Even though Joan was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, her passion for life and her love for family carried her through. Joan will always be remembered for her strength most of all followed closely by her beautiful giving heart. She cared for family and friends not just by listening and giving the best advice but with delicious cooking, crafting and countless impromptu gatherings at her home, she shared with the great love of her life for the last 36 years. Joni was a homemaker, a member of the Eagles Club Lodge 544 and past secratery for Shawangunk Fish and Game. Joni was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. She loved to go bear and deer hunting and to spend vacations in the woods enjoying nature. Joni had a great love of animals, this was evident in the donations she gave monthly to St. Joseph’s Indian Reservation and numerous pet charties.

Joan was predeceased by her daughter Debbie McLaughlin in 2009. She is survived by husband Ronald at home, her children Dawn Dembeck and her husband Tim of Cuddebackville, Danny McLaughlin and his wife Kristin of Raleigh Durham, NC, Jodi Hasbrouck and Leah Gentile Smith both of Middletown; grandchildren Michael Duran of Vicenza, Italy, Robert Duran of Mt Vernon, NY, Amber Rodriguez and her husband Sammy of Austin, TX. Jennifer Duhigg and her husband Dan of Fishkill, LCPL Timmy Dembeck of Camp LeJeune NC, Twins Brandon and Brianna Goldman of Fort Meyers, FL, and Logan Smith of Middletown; Great grandchildren Haiden Dembeck and Joey Pellito; brother Jim Gordon and his wife Ann of Clarksville, VA.; sister Eileen Palmer and her companion John Clark of Kissimmee, FL. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also predeceased by her parents Jim and Eileen Gordon.

Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday, July 19, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Saturday, July 20 at St. Joseph’s R.C.Church and burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Cottage St.
