Obituary for Jennie Amodio
Jennie “Sue” Amodio, a lifetime resident of Middletown, Died unexpectedly on Friday, December 9th at ORMC. She was 89.
One of 5 children born to Ralph and Antoinette Finamore Damiano, she entered into our world on September 24, 1927 . She was baptized Jennie, but to many friends and family, she was also known as Sue.
She graduated from Middletown High School and soon after married the love of her life, Michael Amodio on May 23, 1948 in St. Joseph’s Church. Together they raised three children and spent much of their time being active in family, church and community. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his untimely death. Mom was involved in many organizations that provided assistance to many people; The Lenten Sewing Club, The American Heart Association, and a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s P.T.O. She was a St. Joseph’s Perpetual Adoration Adorer from its beginning but when her health was failing, she was unable to continue. Mom was retired from OCCC Library as a Library Clerk. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s school as a kindergarten aide. She was a dedicated wife, co-worker and cook at Amodio’s Market. She attended daily Mass, offering prayers for her family and friends. Her gracious hospitality will always be remembered. Her front door led directly to the kitchen table where there was always fresh hot coffee and food for any guest that arrived. As grandchildren and great grandchildren were added to the family, Sue saw each one as a precious gift in her life and always looked forward to their visits.
Thursday night was family night with Mom preparing pasta and meatballs, and always dessert for the entire family.
She is survived by her three children; daughter Grace Minkus and her husband Alan, sons; Michael and his wife Sarah and Thomas and his wife, Lindsay, all of Middletown, four grandchildren; Leslie, Susan, Jennifer and Christopher, and three great grandchildren; Brielle, Alyssa and Arianna. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Damiano and niece, Gail Miller and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks and heartfelt love to cousins Frances, Jeanne, and Josie.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Michael, two sisters Mamie and Mary Damiano, and her brother Thomas Damiano.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to caretakers, Frances, Epifania, Ginny, Nancy, Connie, Lorraine and Marion for the love and care they provided for Sue.
