Obituary for Jeffrey Robert Layne
Jeffrey Robert Layne, 79, of Scotchtown NY, son of the late Clifford “Sonny” and Loretta Layne, passed peacefully on May 14, 2022, at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.
Jeffrey was born in NYC and moved to Bergenfield, NJ, in his youth. It was there that Jeff met his soulmate, Paula Andrusco, at a CYO dance in 1961. Two years later they were married and loved each other for the next 59 years. She was his rock through the years, unwavering in her love, care and support during his illness. His family meant the world to him. Jeff loved being a dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Jeff worked as a pipe-fitter at Ford Mahwah and served as a Union Delegate. After the plant closed, he found his calling, with great success as a salesman at WESCO Westinghouse.
Jeff proudly served his country as an Infantryman in the 1st Cav in Vietnam (1967-1968). He was awarded two Bronze Stars (one for Valor).
Jeff coached his children’s teams in the Town of Wallkill Little League for 17 years. He attended all of this grandsons, James & Colton’s, Pine Bush swim meets where everyone affectionately referred to him as “The Grandfather”. He loved to golf and play cards with his lifelong friends. He was known as “Wacky” for his larger than life sense of humor. He instilled in his family a love of life and taught us all to laugh every day. He had a soft spot for his canine buddies, especially his Bijou.
Special thanks to Krisie and her wife, Sue, who moved in to care for Jeff as he bravely fought Parkinson’s and Dementia from Agent Orange poisoning in Vietnam; to Melissa and James who were there to help every step of the way, and to the amazing team from the VA.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Paula, his children, Krisie (Sue), Melissa, James (Dawn), his grandchildren James Roe (Ashley), Colton Roe (Allie), Justin Newman (Katarina) and Jacqueline Shebly (Rob), his two great grandchildren Salvatore and Analaya, his brother Dennis, his brother in law/friend Walter, sister in laws Kristine(Walter), Victoria (Don) and Nancy, and many nieces and nephews.
