Obituary for Jeffrey Michael Corletta
Jeffrey Michael Corletta
August 4, 1953 - February 20, 2021
Westtown, NY
Jeffrey Michael Corletta, a beloved husband, Dad, and Poppie, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Garnet Health Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 67.
The son of the late Michael and Eleanor Long Corletta, he was born on August 4, 1953 in Rochester, NY and was raised in a loving, close-knit Italian family. He relocated to Johnson, NY in 1985 where he met and married his best friend, Betsy Berman. Together, they raised two children who brightened their lives and were a source of immense pride.
Jeff was a quiet, gentle, well-mannered man who also had a certain “bad boy” edge. He would entertain everyone with his dry and witty sense of humor. He was known for delivering original and hilarious one-liners when they were least expected. Always busy, he was gifted in many areas including gardening, carpentry, plumbing, auto care, and of course, cooking. He loved preparing elaborate meals for any occasion, big or small. He was known for trying new creations as well as carrying on the kitchen traditions of his talented mother and loving aunts. “Chef” was his nickname to the many friends who enjoyed his cuisine. Jeff also loved music and listening to classic rock, especially Van Morrison and Duke Robillard. He enjoyed singing and dancing with his grandchildren and even played bass guitar in his younger years. Jeff was also a diehard New York Yankee fan, relishing every win and cursing every loss.
Most of all, Jeffrey was devoted to his family. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, his family benefited from the special times he and Betsy spent caring for their grandchildren. In addition to his wife Betsy at home, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Stobodzian and her husband Edward of Mountain Top, PA, his cherished grandchildren, Cole Jeffrey and Luke Edward Stobodzian,
his son, Michael A. Corletta and his wife Nicole (Brusca) of Slate Hill, NY, his brother-in-law, Jesse Berman and his wife Janell, their children and granddaughter, all of Louisiana. He is also survived by many special Corletta and Long cousins as well as the last surviving Corletta uncle, Michael Francesco. Jeff was adopted at a young age and to his great delight, he recently discovered new family members including Uncle John Torruella, and his wife Carol, and half-sisters Billy Jeanne Green Phelps and Tracey Kunzer.
Services will be private. Following cremation, burial will take place in the Unionville Cemetery at Waterloo on Friday, February 26 at 2:15 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lenape Volunteer Ambulance Corp. P.O. Box 641 Unionville, NY 10998 or the NY State Trooper Foundation, 3 Airport Park Blvd, Latham, NY 12110.
