Jeano Guattery, a lifetime Middletown resident, died Monday, February 9, 2015 at home. He was 94. The son of Basil and Maria Guattery, he was born on February 10, 1920 in Montgomery, N.Y.

Jeano and his brother Louis owned and operated a favorite gathering place and neighborhood store, “ Guattery’s Triangle” for many years. More than just a place to stop in for coffee, Guattery’s was the spot that local politicians and community members met to discuss the news of the day. It was and still is one of the most uniquely built buildings in town. Jeano also worked as a water treatment operator for the city of Middletown Public Works Department. He also served as president of CSEA Local 836.

He married his wife Clare at St. Joseph’s Church in 1952 and they were blessed with four children. He was a World War 11 Veteran who served in the ETO in Unit 156 Field Artillery Battalion D.

He is survived by his two sons, Stephen and his wife, Merri Jo of Farmington N.M, David and his wife Maureen of Middletown and daughter Irene Scott also of Middletown; brother Raymond Guattery, all of Middletown, and sister, Emma Eckert of Brookview, NY; grandchildren, Jenna, Regina, Danielle, Ashley, Matthew, and Connor; and great-grandchildren, Tess, Keira and Bentley, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Clare in 1984 and one son, Jay in 1989.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, February 13, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in may be made to Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen, 12 Depot Street, Middletown, NY 10940.

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
