Obituary for Jean Marilyn Wetstine
JEAN MARILYN WETSTINE

March 15, 1929 - February 9, 2014

Warwick, NY - Formerly of Middletown, NY

Jean M. Wetstine, former Administrator for Schevier Pavillion in Warwick, died following a long illness on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Schevier Pavillion in Warwick. She was 84.

The daughter of the late Frederick J. and Margaret E. Grace Wetstine, Jean was born on March 15, 1929 in Hartford, CT.

As a Maryknoll Sister, Jean was a teacher and principal for several Catholic schools in New York City and in the State of Hawaii. After ending her teaching career, she entered into health care and worked in various nursing homes in the Westchester area as the Administrator, as well as serving as the Assistant Administrator of Frances Schervier Home & Hospital in Riverdale, NY. She later was responsible for the start-up and development of Schervier Pavilion and Mount Alverno Center Assisted Living in Warwick in 1994 and served as the Administrator of Schervier Pavilion until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown prior to her illness.

During her lifetime, she committed herself to the mission to make people feel better about themselves. She was a woman of strong faith who believed in turning negatives into positives. In the healthcare and nursing home industry, she taught others to learn from past mistakes when shaping the future. Her credo was, “unless the Lord buildith the house, they labor in vain that build it.”

Jean is survived by her niece, Kristin Chadwick of Wichita, KS and nephew, Sean Wetstine of Wheatridge, CO and her close friends: Adele Coates of Middletown and Barbara Mavretish of West Nyack, NY, who are grateful for all the quality care that Jean received at Schervier Pavilion. She was predeceased by a brother, John Wetstine in 2002, as well as her parents.

Visitation hours will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12th, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown.
