Janet Miedema
December 17, 1926-May 4, 2023
Middletown, NY
With sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed peacefully at the age of 96 with family by her side.
Janet was born to Cornelius and Nellie DeBoer in Fairlawn, NJ. She was the eldest of 6 children, Clarence, Frank, John, Pete and Marvin DeBoer, all of whom are predeceased.
Janet married William Miedema in 1948 and together had 8 children.
Husband, William Sr. passed in a farming accident, leaving Janet to raise their children, ages 12-3 on her own.
Predeceased of her children is Nellie Jerez in 2021, due to cancer.
Surviving children and spouses are William Miedema, Jr., Jean Miedema, Thomas Miedema (wife Lynda), Frank Miedema (wife Luann), Perry Miedema, Steven Miedema and Judith McGready (husband Michael). She was a mother truly devoted to her children, moving to where she felt needed across the United States. To carry on her legacy, she leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. We appreciated the way she was always there for us when we were in need. She loved to cook and enjoyed having the family gather at the kitchen table to read scripture and teach us the word of God. Mom was our anchor and kept us together. There isn’t any single great accomplishment that comes to mind because she was busy doing so many small, kind, selfless, wonderful things for us.
A special thanks to Brother Greg and his chosen fellow parishoners of Middletown Church of Christ, Circleville, NY. We were honored to have you bring song and the word of God to her bedside in her last hours. Also, a special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Middletown Park Rehabilitation Health Care Center where she resided for 4 years. We appreciate all of you.
Funeral services are private.
Poem
In Loving Memory of Our Beautiful Mother
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arm around you
And he whispered “Come to me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you.
We watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He chose to take the best.
It’s lonesome here without you,
We miss you more each day,
Life doesn’t seem the same
Since you have gone away.
When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
“Cheer up and carry on.”
Each time we see your picture
You seem to smile and say,
“Don’t cry. I’m in God’s hands,
We will meet again someday.”
She will Always and Forever hold a Special place in Our Hearts.
