Obituary for Jane Groia
Jane F. Groia, a registered nurse, died March 5, 2012, with her husband at her side, at St. Teresa's Nursing Home. She was 66 years old. Jane was born in Brooklyn on August 20, 1945 to the late Thomas and Agnes Goggins Whitford.

A caring and compassionate nurse, Jane always loved caring for others. She was capable and bright; one of her proudest moments was giving a seminar on infection control to staff at NASA, in Cape Canaveral.

Our special gratitude goes to Diane Santoro, a very special woman who devoted so much time and care to Jane during her illness at home and at St. Teresa’s.

Jane is survived by her husband, Ronald, at home; two sons, James Collins and his wife, Stacey of S.I., Christopher Groia of Middletown; daughter, Elizabeth Jusinski and her husband, Thomas of NJ; her two brothers, Thomas and his wife, Beverly of Brooklyn, James Whitford of Brooklyn; three sisters: Sr. Carol Whitford of Brooklyn, Denise Perrotta and her husband, Stephen of Mahopac, and Maryanne Noci of S.I. and her three grandchildren: Brooke, Brandon and Michael.

Visitation hours are 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral service will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m. by Fr. Patrick McGuigan, O.Carm. Cremation will be private.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Activity Dept. at St. Teresa’s Nursing Home, 120 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.

Special thanks go to the staff of St. Teresa’s, 2nd floor and the great kitchen staff that kept Jane going.

Arrangements under the direction of the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the funeral home
