James Joseph Carey (Jim) passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the age of 91. He was the son of the late Fred and Teresa Carey. He was born August 2, 1921 in Astoria NY.
im was a long time member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. He was an Eagle Scout of Troop 7 in Middletown. He attended Middletown High School graduating in 1929. He attended Athens State University in Alabama and the University of Michigan.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During World War 2, he was a Naval pilot. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors, spending time with his family camping and fishing. Jim could always be found in his canoe on Mongaup Pond. Jim was a kind man, a good man, a man of honor and integrity. He had a wonderful matter of fact sense of humor. His family loved him dearly. He will be terribly missed.
He is survived by his sons Jeff Carey at home, and Mark (Cynthia) of New Windsor. He has one grandchild, Zachary of New Windsor. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Carroll Carey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 4 at 3:00 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Middletown, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James Carey's memory may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY.
